Good Shepherd Clinic - Madani

Background

Founded in 2000 by a physician burdened with a vision of coming to the aid of the many impoverished Sudanese, the Good Shepherd Clinic in Madani reaches out to poor local citizens as well as many displaced refugees in the area, committed to offering high quality diagnostic and curative care at very low cost to its patients. GSC compassionately serves the poorest and most destitute people in Sudan, desiring to not only heal them physically, but also sharing with them the saving message of Christ. For many Sudanese seeking medical care, GSC Madani continues to be the only hope.

Staff and Activities

Housed in a rented building with five rooms, GSC Madani is currently staffed with a general medical technician, lab technicians, pharmacy attendants and several administrative workers. Over 400 patients are seen per month, most commonly suffering from malaria, TB, typhoid, chloroquine-resistant strains of malaria, brucellosis and rheumatic diseases, as well as many infectious diseases.

Evangelistic movies, such as the Jesus film, are continuously played in the waiting room at the GSC, exposing patients to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. On the tables, Christian literature is available to read while waiting. Used to the harsh living conditions in one of the poorest countries in the world, patients are also frequently surprised with the gentle way they are being treated, as the staff portray the loving image of Christ through their special kindness. Also, they often pray alongside the patients, asking the Lord to heal them – and many come to believe in this way.

Future Plans and Current Needs

A large number of patients in Sudan suffer from advanced stages of diseases, and GSC Madani hopes to expand its services and offer them more effective treatment. Priorities would be adding specialized doctors in tropical medicine, diagnostic radiology and obstetrics.

GSC Madani is in constant need of financial support so that it can continue to offer its high-quality service at prices their patients can afford. As Sudan has banned the importation of medicine, forcing them to purchase medicine, the main need for this clinic is monetary. In addition, the clinic is looking for a dedicated Christian physician with some administrative experience to direct the clinic.
