The Mobile Clinic

Background

The Mobile Clinic is the product of years of prayer, research, need analysis and organization. It first opened in November 2003 as several doctors visited Lebanon on a short-term trip, and saw more than 80 patients on the first day alone. Serving the Bekaa Valley as well as the most remote areas in northern and southern Lebanon, the Mobile Clinic hopes to take the healing message of Christ and the advanced techniques of modern medicine to the neediest of the population in these isolated areas.

Staff and Activities

This clinic on wheels travels to extremely poor villages that lack medical institutions and offers quality healthcare to needy people. A team of doctors participates in this monthly medical outreach, treating various medical illnesses and providing medications at no charge to patients. Fixed dental chairs in Beirut and Abdilli allow the traveling dentist to provide weekly service alternating between the two locations. Recently acquired mobile ophthalmology equipment has expanded the breadth of services offered by the Mobile Clinic to now include optometry.

Besides addressing medical conditions, the team also tells their patients about the love of Christ by sharing the gospel with villagers. In this way, they address the spiritual as well as physical needs of the patients. They distribute Bibles and other Christian literature to help encourage and support spiritual development.

Future Plans and Current Needs

The Mobile Clinic plans to expand its route further with time, enabling it to visit more villages, and treat a larger number of patients by increasing the frequency of trips to at least 4 a month.

As this is one of H.O.M.E.’s fully-supported projects, an endowment fund was started with a goal to raise at least $500,000. Financial donations are greatly needed to cover this medical and evangelistic outreach.
