Hope Clinic
Background
Hope Clinic was started in 1991 in the basement of the CMA church in Amman. The ministry began when the need to offer medical attention to Iraqi refugees from the Gulf War became evident. At the time, the basement clinic was exclusively visited by Iraqi refugees and members of the church congregation. In 1998, a ministry team of Western medical workers began serving at Hope Clinic and the clinic slowly expanded its patient base. It began seeing patients from outside the church fellowship, including Jordanians, Palestinians, Egyptians, Yemenis, Sudanese, Somalis, Ethiopians, and other Northern Africans.
Staff and Activities
Two American doctors, Western nurses and several Arabic believers volunteer their services for the medical work and the receptionist and administrative duties that are necessary at Hope Clinic. The clinic is open two days a week and receives over 50 patients a day. The staff at Hope Clinic actively shares with the patients the reasons behind their giving and compassionate attitudes. Hope Clinic offers the patients quality and compassionate healthcare, prayer, Christian literature, and love.
Future Plans and Current Needs
Hope Clinic will soon be expanding its ministry by moving into the building next to the church. This building, which will also be part of the Alliance Church upon its completion, will be used to offer a variety of community services to the public. The clinic is also working towards expanding its services by adding dentistry and short-term opportunities for physicians from a variety of specialties.
As the plans for expansion unfold, much help is needed. A lot of new equipment will be necessary to furnish the clinic. Also, since the clinic expects to be receiving a higher number of patients, it will require to purchase a significantly larger amount of medications. The clinic’s main purpose is to reach out to the patients with the saving message of Christ, and will thus need to purchase more Bibles, tracts and a TV/VCR for showing evangelistic films in the waiting room.
